A Travel Diary
Pirates, parrots & the Riviera Maya — April 2014
A spring week on the Riviera Maya — the Captain Hook pirate galleon out of Cancún by night, and a long day at the Xcaret eco-park: scarlet macaws and green parrots, a lagoon full of flamingos, underground rivers carved through the limestone, little Maya pyramids in the jungle, and the torchlit México Espectacular show. A spring week on the Riviera Maya with two days that stood out. One was the Captain Hook, a full pirate galleon that sails out of Cancún by night for dinner and a show on the water.
The other was Xcaret, the eco-park south of the city, and it turned into one of our favorite days in Mexico: scarlet macaws and green parrots, a lagoon crowded with flamingos, underground rivers carved through the limestone, little Maya pyramids half-swallowed by jungle, and, after dark, the torchlit México Espectacular show telling the whole country's history in music and light.
This trip ran 4 days, April 2–7, 2014. Along the way we spent time at Xcaret, The Captain Hook, Over the bay, and A Caribbean morning. The gallery below tells it day by day, in 22 photographs.
