A Travel Diary
New Orleans & Mobile at Christmas — December 2013
A Christmas-week road trip along the Gulf Coast — the steel and bronze of New Orleans City Park's Besthoff Sculpture Garden, the live oaks of the same park lit head to foot for Celebration in the Oaks, the science halls of Mobile's Exploreum, and the great grey battleship USS Alabama at her berth in Mobile Bay. A Christmas-week road trip along the Gulf Coast, split between art, lights, and history. In New Orleans, City Park gave us the steel and bronze of the Besthoff Sculpture Garden by day and its live oaks lit head to foot for Celebration in the Oaks by night.
Across the bay in Mobile we explored the science halls of the Exploreum and climbed aboard the great grey battleship USS Alabama at her berth. A little culture, a little wonder, and a lot of Christmas lights strung through the Spanish moss.
This trip ran 4 days, December 24–27, 2013. Along the way we spent time at Celebration in the Oaks, USS Alabama, Besthoff Sculpture Garden, and The Gulf Coast Exploreum. The gallery below tells it day by day, in 25 photographs.
