The Parthenon, gardens, and Music City — July 2019
A summer weekend in Nashville, Tennessee — the city's astonishing full-size replica of the Parthenon, with its towering golden Athena and hall of Elgin Marble casts, the war memorials of Centennial Park, and the jungle-under-glass atrium of the Gaylord Opryland resort, all indoor rivers, waterfalls and a grand fountain. Tap any photo to enlarge it, or open the map.
A summer weekend in Nashville that had almost nothing to do with country music. The star was the city's full-size replica of the Parthenon — yes, the whole thing — with its towering golden Athena inside and a hall of Elgin Marble casts, set in the green of Centennial Park.
The other surprise was the Gaylord Opryland resort, a jungle under glass: indoor rivers, waterfalls, and a grand fountain rising out of the atrium. Music City, by way of ancient Greece and a greenhouse the size of a small town.
This trip ran 2 days, July 4–5, 2019. Along the way we spent time at The Parthenon & Athena, The Opryland gardens, and Centennial Park. The gallery below tells it day by day, in 27 photographs.
