A Travel Diary
Lisbon, Sintra, and the Algarve — Spring 2022
A week across Portugal in early spring — Lisbon's tiled hills and the Manueline stone of Belem, the fairytale palaces of Sintra and the spiral well of the Regaleira, the wild Atlantic coast, the Roman temple and bone chapel of Evora, and finally the Algarve: golden cliffs, hidden beaches, and the glowing sea caves of Benagil. A week across Portugal in early spring, from tiles to sea caves. Lisbon set the tone — hills lined with painted tiles, the Manueline stone of Belém down by the water — and Sintra turned up the fairytale with the colorful Pena Palace and the spiraling initiation well of the Regaleira.
Out past the wild Atlantic coast we found Évora, with its Roman temple and eerie bone chapel, before finishing in the Algarve: golden cliffs, hidden beaches, and the glowing sea caves of Benagil, reachable only from the water. A country that keeps a surprise around every corner.
This trip ran 7 days, March 27 – April 2, 2022. Along the way we spent time at Sintra — Pena Palace & the Regaleira, The Algarve & the sea caves, Lisbon, The wild Atlantic coast, Belem — the tower & the monastery, and Evora. The gallery below tells it day by day, in 97 photographs.
