A Travel Diary
The Colosseum, the Vatican & Pompeii โ November 2018
Six days in the Eternal City and beyond: the Colosseum and the Forum, the overwhelming treasure-house of the Vatican Museums and St. Peter's, fountains and piazzas around every corner, and a day trip south to the frozen-in-time ruins of Pompeii under the shadow of Vesuvius. Six days in the Eternal City, where history is simply lying around in the street. The Colosseum and the Forum filled the first days; the Vatican Museums and St. Peter's the next โ a treasure-house so vast it's almost overwhelming, opening out onto Michelangelo's ceiling and the great dome.
Between the big sights, Rome kept handing us fountains and piazzas around every corner, the Pantheon, the Trevi. Then a day trip south to Pompeii, the city frozen mid-life under the ash of Vesuvius, which still looms over the bay. When in Rome, you simply keep looking up.
This trip ran 6 days, November 21โ26, 2018. Along the way we spent time at The Forum & the Colosseum, The Vatican, Rome's piazzas & monuments, and The Pantheon & the fountains. The gallery below tells it day by day, in 244 photographs.
