Back under the Arch

A return to St. Louis, Missouri — up inside the Gateway Arch for the long view over the Mississippi, the elephants of the Saint Louis Zoo, the breathtaking mosaic domes of the Cathedral Basilica, and the wild salvaged-steel playground of the City Museum, with the river bridges striding off across the water. A return to St. Louis, and a chance to go beyond the Arch — though we rode to the top of it again for the view over the Mississippi. This time the city kept surprising us.

The Cathedral Basilica stopped us cold, its domes covered in some of the largest mosaic work anywhere in the world. The Saint Louis Zoo filled a morning, and the City Museum filled an afternoon — a wild playground built from salvaged steel and old bridges, more art installation than museum, with the real river bridges striding off across the water outside.

This trip ran 3 days, August 31 – September 2, 2019. Along the way we spent time at The Gateway Arch & the riverfront, The Cathedral Basilica, The City Museum & the bridges, and The Saint Louis Zoo. The gallery below tells it day by day, in 25 photographs.
